The Pharaohs is an interesting bunch. Its parades are not as big as the more-established men’s groups, but they are always different — and very Egyptian. The Pharaohs was formed in 1985 by two Mobilians, who had been members of several New Orleans krewes, as well as a Mobile mystic society. The group started parading with rented floats, but after a few years, purchased floats from a bankrupt krewe in Pass Christian, Mississippi. They parade with their women counterparts, the Lady Pharaohs.
The 2026 theme will be “Reign of Ra,” a celebration of the sun. King James and Queen Trish will be joined by Emblems Tut Mark and Nefertiti Heather. Costumes are by Bienville Costumes and Beads by the Dozen. The band Vomit Spots is grand marshal. Expect 36 units, including high school groups, fire twirlers and floats built by Wayne Henson and the Royal Artists.
