First parading in 2016, the Mystic DJ Riders is an offshoot of the MLK Monday Mystics, part of the Lundi Gras daytime parades on Route D. Those parades have become so float-laden that there’s very little room for so-called additional or extra units. So organizers thought, why not build a parading organization around them? “This really is another avenue for the DJs to participate in Mardi Gras,” a co-founder said. “You’re going to hear plenty of music in this parade.”
In 2026, the theme is “Clowns and DJs.” Grand marshal is Tydus Williams, queen is Yolanda Mack and ambassador is Walter Cummings. You’ll hear plenty of music during this parade, as DJs from across the Gulf Coast helm 15 wagons, nearly half of the units, which also include floats, dance groups and old-school cars.
In 2025, the Mystic DJs rolled on Feb. 15, right after the Bayport Parading Society, with 15 floats — including the newly repurposed Circus Wagon — and six DJ wagons. Their theme was “Carnival Style,” and the Grand Marshal was Will Brown (DJ Lil Will). Ambassador 1 was Tydus Williams, while Ambassador 2 was Walter Cummings. Queen was Taffiany Rodgers. Their ball was Feb. 8 at The Calirojaé.
