One thing that remained fairly consistent about Mobile’s mystic societies is they were either for men or women. In 1993, the Krewe of Marry Mates changed all that, creating a parading society specifically for married couples to ride together. (Several non-parading groups exist for married couples, such as the Etruscans.) These days, several groups have both men and women on their floats, and some of the ladies’ groups do have male marshals on horseback, but the Marry Mates remain the only group specifically for married couples to ride on the floats together.
In 2026, their theme is “Happy Hour with the Mates.” Queen Lana and King John are joined by the emblem couple, Tinia and Sean. Expect 11 floats, two for kids, all rented from the Order of Polka Dots.
In 2025, KOMM paraded on the night of Feb. 22, right behind the Order of Butterfly Maidens. Both of those groups followed Route A, while the first parade of the night — Maids of Mirth — followed Route G. The KOMM theme was “Fantasies and Fairy Tales.” The parade included nine floats for members and two for kids, all rented from the Order of Polka Dots. Costumes were by J.C. Darlyn of Gulfport, Charlotte Hall and Katie Uhler.
