Saturday, January 11
● 5:30 p.m. – second annual Saraland Mardi Gras tree lighting with the Krewe of Sparta will be held at Saraland Town Center Park (on the east side of U.S. 43, just north of Second Avenue).

Thursday, January 16 (new date after being postponed)

● 6-8 p.m. – sixth annual City of Mobile Mardi Gras tree lighting will be held at Mardi Gras Park. Excelsior Band is scheduled to play from 6 p.m. until 6:30 p.m., when the tree lighting takes place. Jukebox Brass Band will play until Blow House brass band takes over at 7:20 p.m.

Sunday, January 19
● 5 p.m. – MAMGA Regal Magazine Release Party, The Calirojaé, 1044 Dauphin Island Parkway. Cost $30, includes a magazine. Attire: Dressy (Tickets: at the door or 251-432-3050; mamga.org)

Friday, February 7
● 5-7:30 p.m. – seventh annual King Cake-Off at the Mobile Convention Center. Local bakeries, eateries, and grocery stores compete to see who has the tastiest king cake or king cake-inspired treat. Family-friendly event features live music, local vendors, kids' activities, specialty cocktails, king cake tastings. Proceeds benefit Big Brothers Big Sisters of the Central Gulf Coast. $15 for adults in advance $20 at the door, $5 for kids 3-10. (kingcakeoff.com)

Saturday, February 15

● 10 a.m. - Mystic Krewe of Salty Paws dog parade on Dauphin Island. The theme will be Mythical Creatures and Other Fantastic Beasts. Pre-registration is available through Eventbrite, and the early-bird cost will be $10 per person up to January 15. After January 15, the cost will be $15 per person, regardless of how many dogs. On-site registration begins at 9 a.m. Children 12 and under walk for free with an adult. ARF (Animal Rescue Foundation) will have a merchandise table, be recruiting volunteers and fosters and have pets available for adoption. Prizes for Best Group, Most Creative, and Best Theme Representation. ● 3 p.m. – Mystic Mutts of Revelry 21st annual dog parade to benefit The Haven no-kill animal shelter will start at Fairhoper’s Community Park. The parade will go east on Morphy, north on Section Street, west on Fairhope Avenue, south on Church Street, and end at the park. Registration 12:30 – 2:30 p.m. at the park. ● 10 a.m. – H.L. Sonny Callahan School for the Deaf & Blind, 3980 Burma Road, will be holding a Mardi Gras parade for its students. Parade will circle the school’s parking lot.

● 8 a.m. – 34th annual Joe Cain Classic 5K, organized by Bay Area Runners. On-site registration starts at 6:30 a.m. Start/finish line intersection of Canal and Broad streets; after-party on Augusta Street in front of Joe Cain house. Proceeds benefit challenged athletes.
